MANUSCRIT - Paul DEROULEDE(1846-1914, poet and nationalist activist) / Youthful poem(he was 20 years old) written and signed in his hand, 1 ½ page in-folio (splits at fold and burrs), dated January1867- 7 stanzas of 5 verses each in alexandrines - One of the stanzas has been heavily reworked, with erasures and corrections [In a book, on Déroulède's death in 1914, published by Edition moderne, with a preface by Maurice Barrès, Camille Ducray paid tribute to him with an initial biography, a few documents and hors-texte plates, and retained this poem, quoting it in part, saying that it was a "little-known poem that appeared in 1867 and that Déroulède had entitledExpérience" - These verses appeared in 1867 inLa Revue Nationale and were never subsequently published (except in part in Ducray's tribute) - It was not until 1872 that Déroulède published his first collection :Les Chants du Soldat] - Provenance:Collection Edouard Champion(éditeur) - Cover preserved.
