Valentine de SAINTE-ALDEGONDE, Duchesse de DINO (1820-1891). - Lot 546
Valentine de SAINTE-ALDEGONDE, Duchesse de DINO (1820-1891). Autograph letter (unsigned) written by Pauline de TALLEYRAND-PÉRIGORD, Marquise de CASTELLANE (1820-1890), July 11, 1873, to Baron LOUIS, concerning Valentine, Duchesse de DINO: "My dear Louis. You will read with interest the following details, Elisabeth (her daughter, Countess Hans d'Oppersdoff) wanted to accompany her mother to my home. Clementine (her daughter, Countess Alexander Orlovski) has run to join them in Breslau and come with them to GÜNTHERSDORF. Escorted by her three children, Valentine set foot on the 8th in Hiteitz, where my guards had spontaneously decorated the station. When she arrived at the Château, people were waiting for her downstairs... the poor woman, in the midst of sobs, spoke touching words to me... Valentine did the honors very well, despite her lack of language; she has great dignity in her bearing. In some respects, she remains a true child" (the letter appears to continue). The letter was given by Mr Joseph REINACH to the Comtesse de CASTELLANE in 1921.
