DIBRÉE de COMINCK Négociant à Nantes, 3 pages in-4: "Favored by a northeast breeze as I left the Loire, I made my way in 20 days by the latitude of the Cape Verde Islands. ... I was only able to reach the Equator on August 17.... On October 26, we were at the Sumatra Coast... without finding 10 pecules of pepper... It is said that not only did the accustomed Americans come to the coast, but that a quantity of ships they had never seen before flooded the coast. These ships finished their loads at any price, i.e. they paid 6 to 7 dollars for pepper at ARIGAS. I was able to trade only 7 Piastres for Opium, which I sold for 6#... I'm taking a load of rice for Bourbon right away, and I'll surely arrive for the start of the harvest in Sumatra, where if pepper isn't at 6 or 7 Piastres, I'm sure I'll load up..."
