SALE OF THE PROPERTY OF THE ORLEANS FAMILY & CREATION OF THE MILITARY MEDAL - Decree of the President of the Republic of the PALAIS DES TUILERIES, January 22, 1852 "Considering that all successive governments have deemed it essential to force the family that ceased to rule to sell the movable and immovable property that it owned in France; That on January 12, 1816, Louis XVIII forced the members of the Emperor Napoleon's family to sell their personal belongings within 6 months, and that, on April 10, 1832, Louis-Philippe did the same for the princes of the Bourbons' eldest family; Considering that such measures are always in the public interest and order....The property returning to the State...will be sold in part at the behest of the administration of the estates, for the proceeds to be distributed in this way...Ten million are allocated to fraternal benefit societies...Ten million will be used to improve workers' housing...Ten million will be allocated to the establishment of land credit institutions...Five million will be used to establish a pension fund...The surplus...will be raised for the Legion of Honor's endowment...
