On August 15 at six in the morning, artillery salvoes fired by the gun of the Invalids will announce the solemnity of the day... At one hour, free performances will be given at the Imperial Theatres of the Opera, the French, the Comic Opera and the Odeon,...the Royal Palace,...the Imperial Theatre of the Circus, the Circus of the Emperor and the Empress...public celebrations will take place at the Esplanade des Invides and at the Throne Gate. There will be a fair on each of these sites... a large balloon will be picked up at five o'clock. At night, these two squares will be illuminated as well as the Arc de Triomphe. On the occasion of the Emperor's feast day, many graces have been granted... At precisely noon, a solemn Mass will be celebrated in the choir of the Metropolitan Church of Our Lady, followed by the singing of the Te Deum and the Domine salvum (with pontifical blessing and donations to the families of the soldiers who died in the Eastern army)..." - Paris 1855, Impr.
