ARMY OF THE LOIRE (ORLEANS HEADQUARTERS) & DEFENCE OF PARIS - OFFICIAL DEPARTURE of the Minister of the Interior Léon GAMBETTA to the Prefects concerning the fighting in ORLEANS and the letter received from PARIS, by the BALLON FRANKLIN, reporting a victory of General TROCHU under Paris - TOURS, on 6 December 1870 - "...at noon, General AURELLES DE PALADINES wrote to ORLÉANS: I changed my arrangements, I led the 16th and 17th corps to Orléans; I called the 18th and 20th corps; I organized the resistance, I was in Orléans.....M. the Minister of War wanted to go to Orléans himself... I had hoped until the last moment that I could dispense with evacuating Orléans; all my efforts were insufficient. Tonight the city will be evacuated signed FREYSSINET... The enemy proposed our evacuation to Orléans, at 11:30 in the evening, under penalty of bombing the city... I accepted on behalf of the chief general.
