Letter signed MAUREPAS addressed to Mr LE SAUVAGE - VERSAILLES (78) 25 August 1739 - 1p in-folio - "I am sending you a Placet about François MACÉ Charpentier currently in Prison in BRISTOL for debts... it is claimed that this Charpentier built a ship at Gaspée on behalf of Captain Desjardins David, his relative, and that this Captain sought the opportunity to have him detained in England with a view to not paying him for this construction. Such a manoeuvre would be very punishable..."
