ROYAL MARINE ACADEMY on 22 November 1781. Handwritten speech of 4 pages in-4° signed by René Jean de POMMEREUL (Future General), read at the session of the Royal Marine Academy on November 22, 1781, about one of its specialties : Artillery. Born in FOUGÈRES (35) on December 12, 1745, POMMEREUL had been appointed Corresponding Member of the Royal Academy of BREST in 1778. The Theme of his contribution is to reformulate the article of the Encyclopaedia devoted to the artillery, for which he proposes in this speech a detailed plan after having shown the necessity of this reformulation in a didactic purpose and in a preoccupation of clarity. Member of the Central Artillery Committee on 13 November 1796, he was promoted to Major General of Artillery on 16 November 1796. But Pommereul was not only a renowned soldier, he was also a scholar and a scholar who wrote many works in very diverse fields.
