CALL FOR WARMING AGAINST THE ENTRY OF SPANISH INVOLVES INTO FRANCE in 1793 - PERPIGNAN (66) 25 Frimaire Year 2 (15 Dec. 1793). "The People's Representatives to the Army of the EASTERN PYRENEES (FABRE, GASTON, CASSANYES), to the Administrative Corps, to the Popular Societies, & to all the Citizens of the Departments of the division." "Citizen. The Great setbacks are often the prelude to prosperity... the army of the Eastern Pyrenees, prey to the machinations of the Muscadins, intriguers of all kinds, tends towards disorganization... Since 8 days our army has lost the famous positions of VILLELONGUE & MAS-DE-LA-FERRA; more than 20 guns have fallen into the hands of the enemy; his cavalry is wandering insolently in the plain of the Eastern Pyrenees, & we do not have any to oppose him. The Spanish forces are at the gates of PORT-VENDRES; if they advanced further, they would make fear for our communications between COLLIOURE & PERPIGNAN, between PERPIGNAN and BANYULS-D'ELS-ASPRES. This position is undoubtedly not desperate but it is very distressing... Brave brothers-in-arms, generous citizens, fly to the voice of your representatives who call you to fight ... VICTORY OR DEATH, that is the rallying word...; Get up, go, it's time; the satellites of the Tyrans are advancing..." Printed in Perpignan (66), by F. Reynier & P. TASTU. Cupboard (51 x 36) State B
