LETTER FROM A SOLDIER OF ORLÉANS to the Army of the ARDENNES - Lot 353
LETTER FROM A SOLDIER OF ORLÉANS to the Army of the ARDENNES in 1794 - Letter A.S. from Citizen Antoine FAYARD Chasseur of the 16th Battalion of Light Infantry at the depot of LIBREVILLE (Revolutionary name of CHARLEVILLE (08)- Long letter of 26 May 1794, in phonetics, to his dear Friend and faithful wife FAYARD, Merchant in ORLÉANS (45), 3pp in-4°, Postal Mark "MEZIÈRES.". "...if one day, as I hope, I can get some time off, I swear I will come back in your arms and that is when you will see my open heart. My heart that you cherish, my heart that adores you, my heart that loves you more than it loves itself, that breathes only for you. For I can assure you that all my consolation in the sorrows I endure is to receive news from you and from our child..." He sends her his certificate. He asks her to inform him about his sword... "I look forward to your letter before I go to the army to join the Battalion which is on the side of Mons." He's still suffering from his thigh. He asks for news from Orleans and to tell the Candy Merchant she knows "that her Son has left to go and join the Battalion of the Army of the ARDENNES."
