Paul LEROY-BEAULIEU, Économiste, Professeur au Collège de Fr - Lot 537
Paul LEROY-BEAULIEU, Économiste, Professeur au Collège de France (1843 - 1916) Autograph letter signed PARIS on March 18, 1893, to the Reverend Father Vincent MAUMUS of the Brothers Preachers in Paris - 4pp in-8°. The stamped envelope is enclosed. "My Reverend Father, I have received the book that you did me the honor of sending me on "The Church and Democracy". I have only been able to read it; I was very struck by its beautifully ordered text, by the abundant research of observation which you have been able to concentrate in a single, handy volume. Above all, I am delighted to see how many ideas we have in common. You have been very gracious in quoting my Collector and I thank you for presenting some of it to your readers. In the very serious Crisis that Western Societies are going through and which is, I fear, only in its infancy. I feel reassured when I see men invested with great personal authority siding with Freedom. I am pleased to see that the Church very clearly aligns herself with Rome, and in France, with the liberal Doctrine and rejects the Socialist absolutism which is threatening us. I will pass on to my brother, who is in Rome at the moment, the copy that you intend for him..."
