CAMPINCHI (César) - Lot 564
CAMPINCHI (César) Minister of Justice, Minister of the Navy at the time of the Declaration of War in 1939, Prefect in 1942 in Bordeaux, Deputy of Corsica - Typed letter signed on September 25, 1939, to Georges Pioch. 1p in-8° - "My Dear Friend, France has made the most sincere efforts to maintain Peace and the Hitlerian threat has increased. We were thus threatened to see German hegemony spread over the whole of Europe, including our country, it goes without saying. Faced with this threat, the French House voted unanimously and there is not a French soldier who did not understand his duty. What is the meaning of such a leaflet which reads: "Demand Peace, let the armies lay down their arms". I can only say that I consider such appeals to be very serious, to say the least. Yours sincerely." (envelope enclosed)
