Important ceremonial jade needle. About L. 18 inches. Calcified nephrite jade. Enigmatic cult object probably part of ancestral earth-sky rituals, like the Cong. Square section, obelisk tip. Biconical drilling of the base for a possible fitting. Fine bas-relief decoration of three registers of superimposed classical masks from the Cong of the Neolithic culture of Liangzhou. Southeast China, Lake Tai region. Possibly Neolithic, Liangzhou culture (3200 - 2200 BC).
