- 1750. LANGUEDOC. BANISHMENT OF BEGGARS. "Declaration of the KING (Louis XV), concerning Beggars.". Given in FONTAINEBLEAU (77) on October 20, 1750 - in 5 Articles: "1°) Let us enjoin all Beggars, both men and women, to take a job incessantly to subsist, if better they do not like to retire in the place of their birth or their residence.... 3°) The Beggars who will be arrested asking for alms with insolence, those who will call themselves falsely soldiers, who will be carrying leaves that are not real, feigning illnesses,..., who will have gathered above the number of four or who will have been found armed with guns, pistols, swords, shoddy sticks or other weapons,... those who will find themselves withered with a fleur-de-lys, from the Letter V. (Thief), or other infamous mark, shall be condemned... for able-bodied men, to the Galleys at least for 5 years, & for disabled men or women, to whipping in the interior of the General Hospital, & to detention in the said Hospital, either for time or for life....". followed by the Order of Jean LE NAIN Intendant of LANGUEDOC, Done at MONTPELLIER (34) on December 26, 1750 - Printed at Montpellier, by Augustin-François Rochard, the only Printer of the King. 1750.
