CHARENTE. 1819. GIRLS' SCHOOL. "Decree of the Prefect of Charente of August 6, 1819, concerning Schools and Houses of Education for Girls." The Vicomte de VILLENEUVE Prefect of Charente. In 32 Articles: "No Girls' School may subsist in the Department of Charente until the Teacher has obtained a certificate of competence, which will be issued by us, on the report of a Jury of Examiners whom we shall appoint for this purpose. There shall be formed at Angouleme a Commission of five members...No applicant, daughter, married or widow, shall be admitted before the Board of Examiners unless she is at least 20 years of age...".
