ALGERIA (War of) - Collection of rare documents: 1/Police di - Lot 13
ALGERIA (War of) - Collection of rare documents: 1/Police directives of General Laperrine, Sahara police, typewritten, 14pp; followed by: "directives of Captain Augieras, (for the Meharists), typewritten, 27 pages; 2/the F.S.N.A., Teaching of North African mentality to the ranks, 58 typewritten pp.; 3/3 typescripts on the cantonal organization of the Department of Oases, SAHARA; 3/Jean Pigoreau: Le mouvement rebelle dans l'annexe d'El-Oued, typewritten document of 25 pp.; 4/Notice à l'usage des Méharistes de la C.M.E.O., 5/ [CHAMELS] To begin with the Meharists of the Erg Oriental; important typed work of 62 pp. with some illustrations, insisting mainly on the interest of the use of camels for the Meharists. One reads in the preface: "They (the Meharists) will find there elements of study and understanding of the "slime", companion of every day, and will allow them to free themselves from the quickly tiring tutelage of the "old" always a little mocking. Let this study not make us believe that we are retrograde and swear only by the camel. The tool of our heart to live and preserve the Sahara would be an elite corps, a kind of Saharan Legion...Meharists of course, but also well-adapted vehicles, light and heavy helicopters, medium and long-distance observation planes. All these means being Saharans, volunteers, dressed in a special outfit, and proud to wear it". Important and rare document.
