Pierre Henri TETAR van ELVEN (Molenbeck Saint John 1828 - Milan 1908 The Salle des maréchaux des Tuileries in ruins in 1871 Pen and black and grey ink, watercolour and gouache 43 x 29 cm Signed lower right on the assembly P. van Elven. Titled lower left on the montage the Marshal's Hall 1871 The Salle des maréchaux was on the first floor of the Tuileries clock pavilion. It was destroyed in May 1871 when the Communards set fire to the palace. Pierre Henri Tetar van Elven was an architectural and landscape painter. He worked in Italy and also in France where he painted scenes of Parisian life. Expert René Millet
