COLLECTIF - Lot 52
COLLECTIF Kandinsky. Watercolours and drawings. Nice edition with a colour lithograph on the first plate made by Mourlot. And containing several full-page illustrations in black and color. Published in Paris, by Berggruen, in 1972. And covered with a bound cover. A well-preserved copy. Vassily Kandinskya (in Russian: Василий Васильевич Кандинский), born in Moscow on November 22, 1866 (December 4, 1866 in the Gregorian calendar) and died in Neuilly-sur-Seine on December 13, 1944, is a Russian painter, naturalized German then French. Considered one of the most important painters of the twentieth century, he is often regarded as the author of the first abstract work of art of the modern period, although art historians suspect Kandinsky of having backdated this watercolour, which seems to them to resemble a sketch of his Composition VII of 1913. Be that as it may, Kandinsky's fame is linked to his progressive rejection over these few years of any figurative element in his painting.
