The Compagnie des chemins de fer de Paris à Lyon et à la Méditerranée, commonly referred to as Paris-Lyon-Méditerranée or its acronym PLM, was one of the most important private French railway companies between its creation in 1857 and its nationalisation in 1938, when the SNCF was created. Serving the south-east of France, particularly the Côte d'Azur, Provence, the Cévennes and the Alps, PLM was the company par excellence for holiday departures. The PLM's Parisian station was the Gare de Lyon.
