GONCOURT - Lot 110
GONCOURT THEATRE - First collective edition of the Théâtre des Goncourt, with an unpublished preface. Published in Paris, Chez G. Charpentier, in 1879. Covered in a half-printed binding with a ribbed spine decorated with gold titling. A fairly well-preserved copy, with a few rubbings of use on the covers and spine. Solid hinge. Fresh interior with some light freckles. The Goncourt brothers, Edmond de Goncourt (1822-1896) and Jules de Goncourt (1830-1870), are two nineteenth-century French writers classified in the naturalist school. They collaborated in writing novels such as Germinie Lacerteux, in 1865, a novel inspired by the double life of their servant, or La Lorette et L'Art du xviiie siècle (1859-1875). They hate philanthropy and "good thinking", love Saint-Simon, Father Duchesne, and memorialists (Chateaubriand).
