Lacroix Paul - Lot 147
Lacroix Paul Beautiful red half-shell binding of the publisher, the spine decorated with the title and a superb decoration of foliage and interlacing with golden irons, the plates in red sheared percaline decorated with golden plates. All golden slices. Illustrated edition under the direction of A. Racinet of 16 chromolithographs and 300 woodcuts (including 20 off-text) based on the art monuments of the time. The interest of the work is shown as much by its erudition as by its ease of approach and reading (historical anecdotes...). We owe it to Paul Lacroix, who was a great bibliophile, writer and scholar. If the whole series has become a great classic in the field, it is because it combines the work of a publisher, printer, bookbinder, historian, illustrator and documentarian. XVIIth Century, Institutions, Uses and Costumes France 1590-1700. Paris, Librairie de Firmin-Didot et Cie, 1882. In-4 (20 x 28.5 cm) Red chagrin publisher's bookbinding, spine decorated with the title and a superb foliage design and gilt irons, the chagrin percaline plates adorned with gold plates. All edges gilt. 16 Chromolithographs and 300 woodcuts (20 of which are off-text), based on the art monuments of the time. Cardboard in good condition. Slight rubbing on the caps and jaws. Inside quite fresh with some freckles, without gravity. Good copy.
