Schwob Marcel /Labisse Félix - Lot 249
Schwob Marcel /Labisse Félix Vies imaginaires is a work by Marcel Schwob, first published in June 1896, which is presented as a collection of 22 short biographies in which the author claims not to be concerned with the true: "The biographer, like an inferior divinity, knows how to choose among the possible human beings, the one who is unique". On sale the original edition illustrated by Félix Labisse and one of the 1500 copies on pure wove paper (on sale number 1493). Published in Paris, by Les Editions Lumières - "Collection le Rêve et la Vie", in 1946. Covered with a brocaded cover. Well preserved copy: a few rubbings on the headdresses. Inside fresh and without freckles. Félix Labisse, born on 9 March 1905 in Marchiennes and died on 29 January 1982 in Neuilly-sur-Seine, was a French Surrealist painter whom the Surrealists, however, refused to recognise as one of their own1. On the fringes of André Breton's movement, he was linked in 1947-1948, through his friendship with Christian Dotremont, to the adventure of revolutionary Surrealism.
