Vosgien (Jean-Baptiste Ladvocat) - Lot 282
Vosgien (Jean-Baptiste Ladvocat) New geographical dictionary or description of all parts of the world. New edition, containing 7 colour maps and published in Paris, by Ledentu - Raymond - Menard and Desenne, in 1817. Covered in a full calf binding of the time with a smooth spine decorated with pretty gold irons and a red title coin. A well-preserved copy: some rubbing on the headdresses and bits. Hinge in good condition. Fresh interior with very slight freckles. François-Léopold Vosgien, or the Vosges abbot, canon of Vaucouleurs who assisted Jean-Baptiste Ladvocat in the writing of his Dictionnaire géographique portatif ou Description de tous les royaumes, provinces, villes... des quatre parties du monde in 1747. One hypothesis is that this name is a pseudonym that Jean-Baptiste Ladvocat gave himself.
