Wallon Henri SAINT LOUIS - Fifth edition, published in Tours, Maison Alfred Mame et Fils, circa 1900. Containing a heliogravure in frontispiece and illustrations in black in the text and on the full page. Covered in a half-basane binding with nicely decorated ribbed spine and gilt head. Well preserved copy: small rubs of use on the headdresses and on the spine. Solid hinge. Fresh interior with some light freckles. Louis IX, known as "le Prudhomme"L 1 and more commonly known as Saint Louisa, was a Capetian king of France born on 25 April 1214 in Poissy and died on 25 August 1270 in Carthage, near Tunis. He reigned for more than 43 years from 1226 until his death. Considered a saint during his lifetime, he was canonized by the Catholic Church in 1297.
