GUYOT (J.): On the Viticulture of Western France. Imprimerie - Lot 13
GUYOT (J.): On the Viticulture of Western France. Imprimerie Impériale, 1866. In-8 modern burgundy half-maroon (lightly freckled). Original edition. The doctor Jules Guyot (1807-1872) owes his reputation above all to his viticultural studies which brought about a real revolution in France. From 1841 to 1850 in Châlons-en-Champagne, then from 1850 to 1858 in Sillery, he was employed by the Champagne wine company Jacquesson where he produced many inventions. He described his experience as a winegrower, then as a winemaker at Jacquesson, in his viticulture manual published from the journal of the plantation of a vineyard in a magazine in several episodes, then in volume at the beginning of 186. Hence his reputation and the mission entrusted to him by the Ministry of Agriculture to visit all the vineyards of France, at a time when a trade treaty had just been signed with England. It was then necessary to put the different regions in a position to increase their exports to this major wine importing country.
