SCIENCE] GAGNEAU: Description of the mechanical lamp of Mr. - Lot 53
SCIENCE] GAGNEAU: Description of the mechanical lamp of Mr. Gagneau, which he named Aglaphos. Paris, Bachelier, 1822. Paperback in-8, 20 pages and one folding plate. (wetness on the cover). Since their invention in the XVIIIth century, oil lamps will not cease to be perfected. The watchmaker Carcel and Carreau registered in 1800 a patent for an oil lamp with a clockwork movement. This movement, placed under the lamp, drove a pump placed at the bottom of the tank. This pump, immersed in the oil, raised it to the wick. Many lamp makers registered patents to improve this system of lamps: Gagneau in 1819, Rimbert 1826, Carreau 1834, Cadot 1838. Some of these lamps were reused during the 1914-1918 war, because oil was scarce.
