PELADAN (J.): Latin Decadence. Ethopoeia V. Istar. Paris, Ed - Lot 180
PELADAN (J.): Latin Decadence. Ethopoeia V. Istar. Paris, Edinger, 1888. Large in-8 bound in bradel paperback with Japanese decoration with birds and flowers, untrimmed, cover and spine cons. (rubbed headbands, freckles) First edition illustrated with a beautiful soft varnish frontispiece by F. Knopff. 1/5 on China paper, first large paper with 5 japon, of the in-8 edition (n°7) without the plates which normally accompany this edition. An exceptional copy preserved in a remarkable leather binding (Kami-Kawa). "Promoted by Edmond de Goncourt, the leather binding, the kami-kawa, is one of the modes of the Japanese binding. The decoration is reduced to flowers and a uniform dark background, leaving aside any intention of a scene; it is the symbol of a country focused on its purity. This type of binding is sometimes called 'Goncourt binding'." (Yves Peyré, 124). Copy enriched with a long handwritten note from Péladan (with its envelope) addressed to Henry Monod in 1896.
