VECELLIO (Cesare): Ancient and Modern Costumes. Preceded by an essay on woodcutting by Amb. Firmin Didot. Paris, Didot Frères Fils et Cie, 1859. 2 vols. in-8 contemporary brown half calf, spine ribbed and decorated (corners rubbed, a few light brown spots). Fourth and best edition of this famous collection of costumes. Graesse,VII, 267: "This new edition reproduces exactly all the costumes shown in the first three editions, but this time drawn more correctly by M. Seguin and woodcut by M. Huyot". It contains 513 plates of woodcut costumes in various frames; the text itself in Renaissance style frames. The whole is printed on fine vellum paper. Each double page has a costume and its caption opposite in Italian and French. A good copy.
