Gabriel François Chenon de BEAUMONT [Brûlon / Sarthe 1741 - 1791] - Elected on March 25, 1789 Deputy of the Third to the Estates-General by the Seneschaussée of Maine then to the Constituent Assembly. There are still only 5 to 6 bishops who have taken their oath: they have great difficulty in detaching themselves from the goods of this world" Paris April 12, 1791 "...The Constitution is soon entirely finished whatever the enemies of the fatherland say. It is not and has not been in danger. It seems certain that at the beginning of the next month we will convene for the appointment of those who will have to replace us in the following July [Future National Convention]. Everything is extremely quiet here, except for a few spankings of devout women who have been whipped for having wanted to support the fanaticism of their priests who are opposed to the law. Commerce is resuming everywhere with astonishing activity...." (Excerpts)
