CAMPINCHI (César) Minister of Justice, Minister of the Navy - Lot 572
CAMPINCHI (César) Minister of Justice, Minister of the Navy at the time of the Declaration of War of 1939, Prefect in 1942 in Bordeaux, Deputy of CORSICA - Typed letter signed on September 25, 1939, to Georges Pioch. 1p in-8° - "My Dear Friend, France made the most sincere efforts to maintain the Peace and the Hitlerian threat increased. We were thus threatened to see the German hegemony extending over the whole of Europe, including our country it goes without saying. Faced with this threat, the French Chamber unanimously decided to do battle, and there was not a French soldier who did not understand his duty. What is the meaning of such a leaflet which reads: "Let us demand peace, let the armies lay down their arms! I can only say that I consider such appeals to be very serious to say the least. Yours sincerely." (envelope attached)
