Cycling. Thys. Photos. Manuscript. Scoops. Exceptional set o - Lot 104
Cycling. Thys. Photos. Manuscript. Scoops. Exceptional set of 16 original pieces on the great Belgian champion, first triple winner of the Tour (1913, 1914, 1920), and even quadruple if we count his success in the Tour de France des Indépendants (Peugeot) in 1911. This goes from a damaged photo of the 1911 Tour Peugeot (in Nice) to the colour postcard illustrated by Jack Plunket, via a large photo in Valgelaye (Allos) in 1913, in the company of Faber and Garrigou (16x23, reverse pasted), and two photos of the 1920 Tour in Strasbourg and Nice, where he won and where he was discovered wearing a makeshift yellow jersey (scoops). There are also two photos of the finish at the Parc (13 and 20), as well as photos of the race in 13, 20 or 22 in La Crau, or the Tourmalet (two are with question marks). Finally, we have the issue of "L'Illustration Européenne" of 3. 8. 1913 greeting on the front page the victory of Thys d'Anderlecht, and the other Belgian exploits of Buysse d'Eeclo and Lambot de Marcinelle. Cherry on the cake: a letter on headed paper of his travel agency nicely signed by him (1955).
