NASA. LARGE FORMAT. Gemini IV mission on June 3, 1965. Historic photograph of astronaut Ed. H. White becoming the first American to "fly" in Space. He wears a special spacesuit with a gold-plated helmet to protect him from the sun. A 7.5 meter umbilical cord connects him to his spacecraft as well as a tether, both bound in gold tape. The astronaut is holding a hand-held self-maneuvering unit (HHSMU) in his right hand, which allows him to control his movements in Space. Later chromogenic print. Numbering on the front.
