Nasa. LARGE FORMAT. The first Earth survey observed from the Moon by the Apollo 8 Mission. This historic image is the first of the Earth seen from the Moon captured by the astronauts of the Apollo 8 mission on Christmas Eve 1968. Commander Frank Borman first captured the scene on black-and-white photographic film. Capturing its historic nature, he rotated the Command Module while Command Module Pilot Jim Lovell captured the scene on color film.
