NASA. APOLLO 12 mission. This unusual photograph taken during the 2nd spacewalk (EVA-2) shows two American spacecraft on the surface of the Moon. The APOLLO 12 lunar module is in the background. The SURVEYOR III spacecraft is in the foreground. The distance between the two spacecraft is about 180 meters in the middle of the Ocean of Storms. The televison camera and other parts of the SURVEYOR III were dismantled and brought back to Earth for scientific examination. SURVEYOR III had automatically landed in April 1967. The two APOLLO 12 astronauts to set foot on the Moon were Charles Conrad Jr. and Alan L. Bean. Astronaut Richard F. Gordon Jr. remained in lunar orbit. November 20, 1969. slightly later silver print.
