Nasa. Historical photograph. HUBBLE telescope. A Hubble Spac - Lot 176
Nasa. Historical photograph. HUBBLE telescope. A Hubble Space Telescope image of a giant disk of cold gas and dust feeding a suspected black hole. Estimated to be 300 light-years wide, the disk is tilted enough to allow astronomers to clearly see its bright hub, which probably houses the black hole. The dark, dusty disk represents a cold outer region that moves inward to within a few hundred kilometers of the suspected black hole. The disk is at the heart of the galaxy NGC 4261, one of the 12 brightest galaxies in the Virgo Cluster, located 45 million light-years away. The image was taken at visible wavelengths with the Wide Field/Planetary Camera in PC mode.period chromogenic print on "THIS PAPER MANUFACTURED BY KODAK" paper. Caption on back. 20.4 x 25cm with margins.
