NASA. Hubble Telescope. This strange nebula nicknamed "Boome - Lot 177
NASA. Hubble Telescope. This strange nebula nicknamed "Boomerang Nebula" is to date, the coldest object discovered in the Universe with a temperature of -272°C. It is only 1 degree warmer than absolute zero (the lowest limit for all temperatures). Faint arcs and phantom filaments embedded in the diffuse gas of the smooth lobes of the nebula can be seen in this photograph. The diffuse bow-tie shape of this nebula makes it very different from other observed planetary nebulae, whose lobes normally resemble "bubbles" blown into the gas. The general bow-tie shape of the Boomerang Nebula appears to have been created by a very strong 500,000 kilometre-per-hour wind that blew ultra-cold gas away from the dying central star. 1998. chromogenic print of the period. References in the plate on the front. 20.4 x 25.5CM with margins.
