PRINCE IMPERIAL - Augustin FILON (1841-191, Preceptor of the Prince Imperial, he became in 1870 the secretary of the Empress Eugenie and followed the Imperial Family to England : " Le Prince impérial. Souvenirs et documents (1856-1879)", Paris, Librairie Hachette et Cie, 1912, large in-4 (22 x 27,5 cm), vii [of which the first 2 are blank] -(1) -286-(2) pp. bound in half brown morocco with corners, spine ribbed, gilt fillet on the edge of the boards, gilt head, covers in imitation parchment preserved, ORIGINAL EDITION, richly illustrated with 48 plates out of the main text, some of which reproducing several documents or portraits. Precious copy of Jean-Baptiste FRANCESCHINI PIETRI (1835-1915, from an old Corsican family, grand-nephew of Paoli, secretary and trusted man of Napoleon III, he remained attached to his service by following him in exile in England) who has affixed his signature at the head of the cover. A photographic plate of the volume represents Franceschini Pietri and several reproduced documents bear the mention "Collection Franceschini Pietri". This copy is enriched with 14 AUTOGRAPHIC PIECES by personalities of the Second Empire who were in the direct entourage of the Imperial Prince: the author Augustin Filon (LAS of Margate 1889 and CAS of 1911); the painter Adolphe Yvon (LAS of 1861 which authorizes the publication in the "Monde Illustré" of his portrait of the Prince Imperial); Princess Mathilde, cousin of Napoleon III (LAS); Marie-Laetitia Bonaparte-Wyse, cousin of Napoleon III (LAS) ; Napoleon-Jérôme Bonaparte, Plon-Plon, cousin of Napoleon III (autograph letter in the 3rd person) ; General Fleury, Aide-de-Camp of Napoleon III (LAS to Mocquart, private secretary of Napoleon III, with an apostille from Mocquard) ; the salonniere Hortense Lacroix wife Cornu, goddaughter of Queen Hortense and childhood friend of Napoleon III (LAS 1868), the Baron Félix-Hippolyte Larrey, surgeon of Napoleon III (LAS 1865), the historian Ernest Lavisse, who was a tutor for the History of the Imperial Prince (LAS 1916); Count Joseph Primoli, nephew of Princess Mathilde and childhood friend of the Prince Imperial (autograph telegram to Alexandre Dumas Fils), Abbé Laine, chaplain to Napoleon III (LAS 1864); Baron Damas-Hinard, secretary to the Empress Eugénie (LAS 1858); Baron Lannes de Montebello, Aide-de-Camp to Napoleon III (LAS 1857)
