WAR OF CANDIA (Crete), Expedition against the Turks from 1645 to 1669. Certificate signed Nicolas AUBERT Commissioner of the King, appointed by the King to the conduct of the troops intended for the Army of CANDIE, made in Paris on February 2, 1671. 1 page (24 x 38 cm). He declares to have received the will of the late Mr BOVRIER Captain in foot to the Regiment of Brittany, received on the Board of the Vessel LA ROYALE, died while going to CANDIE and certifies that the aforementioned will included a foundation in favour of the Church of LICT in Artois close to Saint Omer (LICQUES 62), for him and his comrade Mr. the Knight of MAUCONSEIL wounded and died in CANDIE. "...The Regiment of Brittany, on October 16, 1669, on board "LA ROYALE" mounted by Mr. Commander de LA HILLIÈRE, where the Regiment of Brittany had been ordered by Monseigneur the Duke of BEAUFORT Admiral of France to embark with the Regiment of CONTY, and we, going to CANDIE and on the way back the said two Regiments had been ordered to embark on the same ship by Mr. de MARTEL Vice-Admiral..."
