VOYAGE OF THE SHIP LA BELLE POULE. Beautiful Letter from Rea - Lot 494
VOYAGE OF THE SHIP LA BELLE POULE. Beautiful Letter from Rear-Admiral HERNOUX (Claude-Charles-Étienne), to Prince de JOINVILLE (François d'ORLÉANS) - Letter A.S. from BREST (29), October 28, 1843, to Monseigneur, (The Prince de Joinville, who in 1840, took part in the transfer to France of the mortal remains of Emperor Napoleon I., on board of the ship LA BELLE POULE. He had just married the daughter of the Emperor of Brazil in 1843.) 3pp in-4° - "The good Admiral GRIVEL... has just written to the Minister of the Navy, by telegraph, so that he asks the Queen, Madam, the Princess, to send the Commissions announced for Lisbon. It is that the ministerial orders arrived last night, and that as a consequence of these orders, LA BELLE POULE will set sail when the winds have accomplished a small necessary revolution in their course. I believe that we shall only be dispatched from here in good order. The dismasting of the JUPITER has placed us in the reserve. I have the station from Lisbon to Cadiz with the Brigs LE VOLAGE & LE CIGNE under my command. The Minister had spoken to me, since the time of his stay at the Château d'EU, only about the first of these ships. .... also charmed that TOUCHARD is with you... Farewell My Lord; Be well and happy! There are large thoughts in this last word. Affection and Respect."
