Nasa. The HUBBLE telescope here is observing a rare type of - Lot 245
Nasa. The HUBBLE telescope here is observing a rare type of star whose atmosphere contains more carbon than oxygen.Because of its low surface gravity, half of a carbon star's total mass can usually be lost to powerful stellar winds. As it begins to run out of fuel, it becomes unstable. Every few thousand years, it spits out a nearly spherical envelope of gas as a layer of helium around its core begins to melt. The gas ejected during the star's last eruption is clearly visible in this photo as a faint bubble of gas surrounding the star. Vintage chromogenic print. Legend on label on the back. 25,5 x 20,4cm with margins.
