[MEDICINE] BICHAT (X.): General anatomy, applied to physiolo - Lot 7
[MEDICINE] BICHAT (X.): General anatomy, applied to physiology and medicine. Brosson, Gabon et Cie, 1801. 4 parts in 2 vols. in-8, contemporary half calf, smooth spine decorated, spotted edges (rare and slight brown spots). Two folding tables. First edition of this famous work by Bichat, who was the founder of histology. In his preface, he defines his doctrine by opposing it to that of Boerhaave and by showing its differences from that of Stahl. "To analyze with precision the properties of living bodies; to show that all physiological phenomena refer in the last analysis to these properties considered in their natural state [...] "to indicate when animal sensibility and contractility of the same species, when organic sensibility and the sensitive or insensitive contractilities which correspond to it are brought into play: this is the general doctrine of this work". Nice copy.
