Armée d'Afrique - Province of Oran - General de La Moricière: L.A.S of August 18, 1843 addressed to "a general" and concerning a transfer of jurisdiction. Beautiful and rare letter. Born on February 5, 1806 in Nantes and died on September 11, 1865 in Prouzel (Somme)General de La Moricière is a French officer and politician. His decisive military actions contributed to the rapid pacification of French Algeria. Promoted to major general in 1843, during the campaign led by General Bugeaud against the Emir Abd el-Kader in Algeria, Lamoricière also became involved in politics and was elected to the Legislative Assembly. He was appointed Minister of War in 1848, and actively participated in the repression of the June Days. Exiled after the coup d'état of 2 December 1851 because of his opposition to Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte, he returned to France and in 1860 joined the Papal cause in the fight against Garibaldi, until the defeat at Castelfidardo.
