AUTICHAMP Charles de Beaumont comte d' (1770-1859), officer - Lot 85
AUTICHAMP Charles de Beaumont comte d' (1770-1859), officer in the King's guard in 1791, general in chief of the Vendée armies, lieutenant-general in 1814, he raised the Vendée against Napoleon in 1815, refused to take the oath to Louis Philippe in 1830, tried to raise the Vendée in 1832, exiled from 1833 to 1838: LAS to comte de Sèze, former defender of King Louis XVI, current minister. Bordeaux September 8, 1820, 2 pages in-4. Very beautiful letter written about the cradle that the Ladies of the Halle of Bordeaux wanted to offer to the Duchess of Berry, pregnant with the Duke of Bordeaux. Three of them, designated to represent their companions at the Tuileries, had secretly chosen Chateaubriand to accompany them; while General d'Autichamp had, in the name of the Bordeaux municipality, presided over the Count de Sèze to present the "Brabes Bourdelèses" to King Louis XVIII to the Royal Family. In the end, de Sèze prevailed over Chateaubriand, who later protested strongly in the press... "...Monsieur le Comte, you have too many honourable titles in the eyes of the people of Bordeaux for it not to be you, whenever it is a question of expressing the feelings of love of this city, that we address ourselves to lay them at the feet of the persons of this august family, to whom you and I bear so much love and veneration; I have therefore accepted with alacrity the request made to me by the Dames de la Halle of Bordeaux to ask you to take charge of them on their arrival in Paris, where they are going to present a tribute of their love to Madame la Duchesse de Berry...etc..."
