PREVOST (Abbot): History of Manon Lecaut and the Chevalier des Grieux. Illustrated edition by Tony Johannot, preceded by a notice on the author by Jules Janin. Paris, Bourdin, no date (1839). In-8 full red morocco, smooth spine decorated, large and important decoration of romantic style gilt on the boards, gilt head, untrimmed, green silk linings and grades, inner lace, red morocco spine and band folder, lined case (spine of the folder very slightly faded, tiny tear at the foot of the spine). First edition of the illustrations by Johannot. One of the very rare copies on china paper. Frontispiece in cameo, 18 woodcut out-of-text compositions and 90 vignettes in the text, plus two ornamented woodcut and gold printed faux-titles for each of the two parts. A very fine copy WITHOUT RUBBISHES (which is very rare for this paper), richly bound by René Kieffer.
