CHINA SEA - INDOCHINA - Manuscript around 1810. In-folio (39 x 24 cm) with 81 pages. Precious maritime manuscript of which we did not manage to identify the author, and of which the first 4 pages (corresponding to chapter 1 of the instructions) are missing. This manuscript, with a fine and readable handwriting, gives detailed instructions for navigators who would like to explore the China Sea, carefully indicating a lot of information on possible physical difficulties, currents, winds, particularities of each area, etc... as well as a lot of geographical information on the lands and coasts approached. It is divided into 8 chapters: 1/Navigation of the Straits of Malacca; Instruction for entering and leaving the Straits (text partly missing; ); 2/Description of the Pedir coast; notions for navigating it and going from Diamond Point to the Arroas following the coast of Sumatra; 3/Description of the Malayan coast on the Straits from Innuksey lon to Prince of Wales Island; instructions for navigating it; 4/Instructions for going from Prince of Wales Island to the Arroas and thence to Mount Parcelar; 5/Instructions for sailing from Sambilangues to Salangore and for crossing the Strait of Callam; 6/Instructions for sailing from Mount Parcelar to Cape Machado and thence to Malaca; 7/Instructions for sailing from Malaca to the Strait of Singapore; description of the dangers of the islands and shoals along the way; 8/Description of the Strait of Singapore; instructions for sailing through it and into the North China Sea Instruction for entering the Singapore Strait and returning to the west by the Malacca Strait. 9/China Sea. monsoon, winds, typhoons and currents; 10/General instruction on navigating the China Sea either to or from the Canton River at all times of the year; 11/Description of the islands situated in the southwestern part of the China Sea and on the eastern coast of Malaya; 12/Navigation of Siam; coasts of Cambodia; Pulo Uby; Pulo Condore and adjacent islands. 13/Augsburg's translation of the Dampier Strait.
