PHRYGIAN BONNET. "Judgement of the Military Commission, Revolutionary, established for the Departments of INDRE ET LOIRE LOIR ET CHER, temporarily seated in TOURS, on 11 Ventôse Year 2 (March 1, 1794). Who acquits Jean Baptiste BONNOT, Hunter of the Legion of the Franks, aged 20 years, accused of uncivil remarks orders that he be put at the moment in freedom. He was accused of having insulted the red bonnet, symbol of Liberty, by shouting: "Down with the red bonnet." The accused has constantly given proofs of bravery, notably in Mayence in the Vendée...
