GENERAL CHARLES FRÉGEVILLE (Château de Grandval/ Tarn 1762 - - Lot 222
GENERAL CHARLES FRÉGEVILLE (Château de Grandval/ Tarn 1762 - 1841). Autograph letter signed Charles FRÉGEVILLE, General of Cavalry, Commander of the Hussars and Chasseurs of the Army of Italy. Beautiful letter to his Mother in Montpellier, Hérault (Postal mark "ARMÉE D'ITALIE". 1p in-4°, from Verona (Italy) the 14 Nivôse Year 8: "We entered here yesterday (January 3, 1800) my dear Mom. The Austrian army is in full retreat. The day before yesterday General BELLEGARDE (Commander of the Austrian Corps) sent a parliamentarian to ask for a suspension of arms, claiming that there is one in the army of MOREAU (commander of the army of the Rhine) and that peace is going to be signed. General BRUNE (Commander-in-Chief of the Army of the West) did not deem it appropriate to grant it, but if a suspension exists in MOREAU's army, it is a safe bet that it will soon bring peace, especially after the success of the Army of Italy. May this precious blessing give us all tranquility and happiness. I have the command of eighteen regiments of Hussars and Chasseurs à cheval, six or seven thousand cavalry. I am doing wonderfully well. I have good news of my wife and Carolina. Take care of your health, my dear mother, and don't deny yourself anything. Everything tells me that I will soon have the pleasure of seeing you. I kiss you with all my soul.
