WAR OF 1870/71. MARSEILLE (13) March 2, 1871. PROCLAMATION o - Lot 458
WAR OF 1870/71. MARSEILLE (13) March 2, 1871. PROCLAMATION of H. FOUQUIER Prefect of the Bouches-du-Rhône, by interim: " The National Assembly ratified the preliminaries of the peace. Germany demands from us the fifth of Lorraine with the City of METZ, Alsace minus the heroic fortress of BELFORT, a war indemnity of five billion and the occupation of a part of the territory until the payment of this indemnity! In return for these painful sacrifices. Paris will be delivered from the German occupation and our prisoners will be given in freedom .... It is the maintenance of the Republic which will avenge us of the requirements of the German empire. Let us be a free people... I am addressing you, inhabitants of the Marseilles City... Let us save order, it is through it that the Republic lives. In this way, we will keep for the future a citadel that never capitulates: the right, and a weapon that does not break: Liberty. Typography J. Doucet et Comp. printers of the Prefecture, 7 street Moustiers. Poster (96 x 50) State A.
