The Apollo 11 Saturn V rocket was launched with astronauts Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Buzz Aldrin at 9:32 a.m. on July 16, 1969, from Kennedy Space Center's Launch Complex 39A. During the eight-day mission, Armstrong and Aldrin descended to the surface of the Moon in a lunar module, while Collins orbited above the Moon in the command module. The two astronauts spent 22 hours on the Moon, including two and a half hours outside the lunar module. They collected samples of lunar materials and conducted science experiments that provided data on the lunar environment.
