NASA. Solar observation performed by the TRACE (Transition Region and Coronal Explorer) program. TRACE was a NASA solar and heliophysical observatory designed to study the links between small-scale magnetic fields and associated plasma structures on the Sun by providing high-resolution images and observations of the solar photosphere, transition region, and solar corona. The TRACE instrument focuses primarily on the fine structure of low-level coronal loops in the solar atmosphere. TRACE is the third spacecraft in the Small Explorer program, launched on April 2, 1998, and obtained its last science image on June 21, 2010. Vintage chromogenic print.
